A tsunami has hit Tongas largest island Tongatapu and reportedly sent waves flooding into the capital after an underwater volcano in the South Pacific exploded in a violent eruption on Saturday. The total surface area of the archipelago is about 750 km 2 290 sq mi scattered over 700000 km 2 270000 sq mi of the southern Pacific Ocean.
